Ameren reports a first quarter loss of $403 million compared to a $71 million profit a year ago, according to information released Friday. The loss included charges related to the declining value of a generating center plus lower electric and natural gas sales due to a mild winter. Revenue dropped to $1.66 billion, down 13 percent from $1.9 billion during the first quarter of last year. Excluding the one time charges, Ameren would have earned $53 million. Ameren stock closed down slightly Friday.
