ISU Student Killed in Fiery Crash on I-55

McLEAN CO. - An Illinois State University student and veteran of the U.S. Army is dead after a fiery crash on Interstate 55.
It happened just before midnight on the southbound side near mile marker 145.
Emergency crews arrived to find a semi-tractor tractor engulfed in flames and a pick-up truck on its roof in the median.
21-year-old Thomas Sarwark of Burr Ridge, Illinois and the driver of the pick-up was pronounced dead on scene.
Preliminary evidence shows Sarwark entered the interstate going northbound in the southbound lanes.
Authorities don't know what he was doing before he got behind the wheel. He had served in the Army and was attending ISU.
Two people from the semi were taken to the hospital. The crash is still being investigated.
