Normal Community High School Students Receive the Kirbie Nicole Brittain Memorial Scholarship

A family is helping others in remembrance of a loved one.
Casey Hrouda
and Jessica Fujimoto from Normal Community High School were both awarded
the Kirbie Nicole Brittain Memorial Scholarship.
The
scholarships were given out during the Senior Awards Ceremony at Normal
Community High School. Students were given awards for overcoming difficulties
in their lives during their senior year.
The two finalists
were not told beforehand about the awards and they were quite surprised.
Scholarship winner Casey
Hrouda said, "I knew it was between me and Jessica. We were both really
afraid because each of us wanted the other to get it, we both wanted it. we
didn't know who would get it and it was a really big surprise that we both got
it."
"I feel really
honored. It was an incredible moment. I'm just glad I can honor someone's life,"
said other scholarship winner Jessica Fujimoto.
This is the second time the
award has been given out. Each student
was given a one thousand dollar scholarship.
