SPRINGFIELD- Illinois Senators voted Thursday to end a controversial
legislative scholarship program, which dates back to 1905. The century
old program was recently plagued by allegations of corruption and
political favoritism. The Illinois House has already voted to end the
program and the governor is expected to sign the legislation.Supporters
of the program say it allowed lawmakers to help students who might
otherwise not be able to attend college.
