SPRINGFIELD - The commission on government forecasting and
accountability is recommending that Dwight's prison remain open. In a 7
to 3 vote Tuesday morning, COGFA members shows their support of the
Women's Correctional facility.
Earlier this year, Governor Quinn proposed closing the prison to save the state money. In the end, Quinn will have the final say on the prion's fate.
State Treasurer Dan Rutherford says the closing would devastate the local economy in Dwight, which is in Livingston County.
COGFA also voted today in a 10 to 0 vote to keep the Peoria Adult Transition Center open. Quinn has also said this facility must be closed as well.
