That's what happened to Metamora grad Brad Herman.
Herman went undrafted, but signed a free agent contract with the New England Patriots.
The former Iowa Tight End spoke with Pats Head Coach Bill Belichick on the phone right after the draft, and told WMBD that he is excited for camp.
"It's awesome finally having all the hard work pay off. This is ultimately the dream that a lot of football players want," said Brad Herman. "I get an opportunity to live that out. That is really cool."
The 6-5 252 pound Herman will now compete for a roster spot on New England as a Tight End.
