NORMAL-Pulling an all night study session in college is not uncommon, but some students are staying up late for a different reason.

Illinois state university hosted the tenth annual relay for life in the ISU Arena. Over 1,000 people signed up to raise money and awareness for cancer research.

114 teams participated in the event. The rule for the relay is that at least one member from each team has to be walking on the track at all times.

The event goes on through the whole night.  It allows people to exercise, talk and have fun raising awareness for cancer.

Relay for Life Co-Chair, Megan Barton said, "It's just a way for them to come and honor those that they know. Everybody these days has been impacted by someone they know having cancer. It's just a good way for people to come out."

The goal mark for the relay is to reach $125,000 dollars.
