EAST PEORIA, Ill.-
Keeping your neighborhood safe was the focus of a free workshop today at
Illinois Central College.
Members of
the Peoria Police Department and City Planning Department spoke with area
seniors about the importance of keeping an eye on their neighborhoods.
Experts says seniors can play a big role in
setting up watch programs, which provides local law enforcement vital
information to help reduce crime in area neighborhoods.
Project Consultant,
Prime Plus at I.C.C., Norma Rossi said, "Once you become aware, you can make a
difference. If you see a child who is left alone, if you see a car that has
been abandoned, all those things can need to really big issues. So, if you know your neighbors you can let
people know."
Today's
program was part of I.C.C.'s Adult Community Programs "Get to Know Your Community
Initiative."
