Mayor Jim Ardis of Peoria, Mayor Dave Mingus of East Peoria and the Peoria Park District want the PNC Air Show to pay $42,000 for logistical costs for the show, which is planned for June. Those costs include overtime payments for security on both sides of the Illinois River and additional costs for Riverfront clean up.
The city of Peoria says these costs were not budgeted at the beginning of the year. So the city needs the money up front.
In March, all parties sent a letter to the PNC Air Show promoters requesting the money by April 23rd. But that money hasn't been received.
Peoria city manager Patrick Urich says everyone wants this to be a great event, but the air show has to pay up in order to make it happen.
"These are costs that both communities and the park district never anticipated having in the budget this year. We want to throw a very nice event on the riverfront this year. We want to help facilitate that and be a good partner. But we need to make sure that we all those costs covered," said Urich.
The city of Peoria says it will give the PNC Air Show more time to gather the money. But Urich says no timetable has been set yet.
We asked the PNC Air Show when it will be able to pay. Representatives wouldn't say. They just told us they're working toward a successful event.
