KANDAHAR AIR FIELD, Afghanistan - The helicopter crash that killed a Pekin native last week might not have been caused by weather.
The Military newspaper Stars and Stripes reports the helicopter, which was carrying 2007 Pekin High School grad Dean Shaffer, was likely shot down.
The U.S. Department of Defense originally said the crash was probably caused by bad weather.
Three others were also killed in the crash.
Arrangements for Shaffer are pending at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home in Pekin.
