BLOOMINGTON-If you drove by Denny's Doughnuts in the Twin Cities you shouldn't have been alarmed if you saw people on the roof.

There were officers with the Mclean County Sheriff's Department and they were raising money for Special Olympics.

From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. the deputies sat atop the business in hopes of getting more people to satisfy their sweet tooth and support the cause.

All proceeds were donated to the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run this summer.

Officers say giving 12 hours of their time to see these athletes succeed is worth every minute.

McLean County Sheriff's Detective, Sara Bernabei said, "For me to give up one day of 12 hours it's not really a huge sacrifice because when the summer games rolls around and we go and we see the athletes who we are raising money for, it's so overwhelming. It goes right to my heart."

This is the first year for deputies on deck at Denny's. Officers hope to raise $1,000 for Special Olympics.
