WMBD/WYZZ TV - BLOOMINGTON - They set a CCIW record by breezing through the conference with a 20-1 regular season mark, but the postseason is proving to be anything but easy for the Illinois Wesleyan baseball team. The Titans were eliminated from the conference tournament Friday thanks to a pair of loses.
After losing to Carthage Friday morning, Wesleyan jumped out to a 2-0 lead over Augustana in the nightcap. Casey McIntosh drove in a run with a single in the first, and Josh Bidzinski followed with another run-scoring single in the fourth. But Augustana tied the game in the fifth, then added five more the next frame for the 7-2 win.
Top-seeded Wesleyan must now wait to see if it will receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Division 3 tournament. The pairings will be announced early Monday morning.
