WMBD/WYZZ-TV - PEORIA - Something is missing at Richwoods soccer practice this week. Her name is Courtney Holtz. "We were really bumming when she left the game," said senior captain Nicole Russell. "We thought, what are we going to do without our leading scorer?" Holtz, who leads the Peoria area with 24 goals in the first eight games of the season, broke her collarbone in a game against Quincy Notre Dame Friday night. Her return to the Knights is uncertain. "You really cant replace 24 goals," explained coach Tony DeMoss. "But what you have to have is a couple of players stepping up. And we had that." Even without their scoring leader, Richwoods won two games Saturday to capture the prestigious Sacred Heart-Griffin Tournament championship in Springfield. And the tournament title seemed to do wonders for the Knights confidence. "It makes us look really good as a team because we pulled together. One person doesnt make a team. Even your leading scorer," said Russell, wholl play college soccer at Illinois State next season. "Were certainly going to miss (Holtz)," added senior Rachal Waldschmidt. "But its definitely looking good for us. Were going to come together. We just need to have key players step up and get the job done."
