WMBD/WYZZ-TV - PEORIA, Ill. -- For eight innings the Chiefs have been good.
Throw out the ninth inning and the Chiefs would have four more wins in July. But the ninth inning has been a mess.
Kane County scored three times in the ninth to beat the Chiefs 4-3 at O'Brien Field Friday night. The Cougars scored four in the ninth to win Thursday's game against the Chiefs.
Corey Martin's first relief appearance with the Chiefs since April 29 was one to forget. Martin, who was sent to Short Season Boise (Idaho) to work out the kinks in May, started the ninth by surrendering a single, double and RBI single.
Jose Cristomo's single off Martin tied the game 2-2. After a fielders’ choice that got an out at the plate, Martin threw a wild pitch while trying to walk a hitter intentionally.
Crisotomo to score from third with the go-ahead
run. The final run of the inning scored on a Leonardo Gil RBI single to
centerfield to make the score 4-2.
