June 24, 2008 – PRESS RELEASE FROM McLEAN CO. STATE'S ATTORNEY
On May 4, 1995 Alan Beaman was convicted of
first degree murder in McLean County in relation to the August
23, 1993 death of Jennifer Lockmiller.
He was subsequently sentenced to fifty (50) years in the Illinois
Department of Corrections. On May 22,
2008, the Illinois Supreme Court issued an opinion reversing the conviction and
remanding the matter back to McLean County for further proceedings. The Supreme Court Mandate will issue June 26,
2008.
On June 26, the case will return to McLean
County for further action. The charges
as they existed prior to the initial trial remain in full effect. The McLean County State’s Attorneys Office
will continue to move forward with the investigation and prosecution of Alan
Beaman.
Pending further action in this matter, the
defendant is entitled to request the trial court to set an appropriate bond.
As this conviction has been reversed and
remanded back to the Trial Court for further proceedings, the public is
reminded that the defendant is presumed innocent of any charges filed against
him, and that the burden of proof is proof beyond a reasonable doubt.
