Fay carried the ball 21 times for 169 yards. His touchdown runs of four, nine and three yards gave the Redbirds (13-1) a 21-0 first half lead. His 24-yard touchdown scamper with :02 remaining in the third quarter gave Metamora a 34-7 lead.. But perhaps the back-breaking score was Aaron Peters' 48-yard TD run earlier in the third quarter. Geneseo scored on its opening possession of the second half on a Luke Lembke six-yard TD run. But before the Maple Leafs (11-3) could capture the momentum, Peters ripped off his touchdown run to give Metamora a 28-7 lead. The Redbirds avenged state title game losses to Geneseo in 1976 and 1977. The championship was Metamora's second in the last three years and third overall. |
