Reported by: WMBD/WYZZ-TV STAFF Friday, Nov 20, 2009 @06:45pm CST WMBD/WYZZ-TV - PEORIA, Ill. -- After last week, Richwoods feels like it is ready for anything.
Including 13-time state football champion Joliet Catholic Academy. "Tremendous confidence-builder, tremendous confidence-booster," said Richwoods coach Roland Brown of his team's 29-20 win over Springfield Sacred-Heart Griffin last Saturday. "We played the No. 1 team in the state, the defending state champs and played very well against them. So confidence-wise it was huge. One giant down, another one to go. Richwoods (11-1) hosts Joliet Catholic (10-2) in the class 5A semifinals Saturday. "Just like Griffin, they're pretty good. Thirteen state championships and all that," said Richwoods lineman Miguel Lozan. " But I think we're pretty confident." JCA comes to Peoria after beating previously-undefeated Washington 47-7 in the state quarterfinals last week. The Knights have studied that game film all week. "We've been working all season. Our goal since day one of summer conditioning was to win a state championship," said Richwoods receiver Noah Moore. "We've been working at that all year. So in the locker room we definitely believe it." |
