Disabilityworks hosted a workshop Wednesday morning with Central Illinois employers. A recent study from the organiation shows many employers have misperceptions about the abilities of people with disabilities and the costs associated with accomodations. A study in 2006 from Disabilityworks, shows a majority of Americans said they would support a business that hires people with disabilities, making it better for the bottom line. Karen McCulloh is legally blind and deaf, and she's also the Executive Director for Disabilityworks. She says, "Because we're capable of doing all kinds of things that people without disabilities do. We're trying to bring a level playing field for people with disabilities because there's hardly anybody in this country that hasn't been touched by disability." And the study shows there are actually three federal tax incentives which encourages businesses to hire people with disabilities. |
