Reported by: WMBD/WYZZ TV - Sarah Barwacz

PEORIA - The long-standing Peoria County Sheriff has a challenger for the February 2nd primary. Peoria City Police Lieutenant, Vincent Wieland, put in his bid for sheriff Monday afternoon. He's been with Peoria Police Department for 22-years, and is currently the commander of the criminal investigation division. Wieland says he wants to bring better leadership to the office currently held by Mike McCoy. McCoy started as a Peoria County correctional officer in 1972, before being appointed as sheriff in 2002. Both men are running as republicans.
