WMBD/WYZZ-TV - PEORIA, Ill. -- Mike Bare hopes his last home game will be a perfect sendoff.

His Notre Dame Irish, the defending state soccer champs, host Lemont in the class 2A super-sectionals Tuesday. The winner goes to the state tournament this weekend in Naperville.

"We're hoping our field is in good condition," said the head coach of the Irish.

The Peoria area has just been through the wettest October on record.

"It's great to play in front of a home crowd. Obviously, we don't have to travel," said Bare. "We'll prepare just like we do for a home game."

Notre Dame (21-2-1) beat Normal U-High, 5-1 in the sectional title match Friday, which was moved from nearby Morton to Champaign because McClallen Park was nearly underwater after last week's rain.

Now the Irish hope to swamp Lemont (21-4-1).

"Our greatest strength is our chemistry," said junior forward Vince Cicciarelli, who scored two goals in the sectional championship. "We've been together for a long time, a lot of us playing club (soccer). We just know the runs to make off each other and stuff. We know what the other person is going to do."
