  • IWU Professor Discovers New Frog Species

BLOOMINGTON - Hop over, Kermit the Frog...you've got company!

A biology professor at Illinois Wesleyan University recently discovered three new species of frogs.  They're about 2 centimeters big and have brown-ish colored skin.  Some have orange necks.

The frogs were a mystery because genes in their DNA were unknown.  It was also hard to find them because they hide easily under leaves and dirt.

Dr. Edgar Lehr says it's important to keep learning about our ecosystem.  He says, "I think that if we live on this planet, we should know what's living with us together on this planet.  Animals can tell us if we did something wrong to our environment."

The frogs will likely remain overseas because they need a warm climate all year long.
