Tuesday, May 27, 2008 @07:56pm CDT A law allowing Peoria and McLean Counties and several others to install cameras to catch red light runners, failed to get a "green" light in the Illinois Senate Tuesday, according to the Illinois General Assembly website. The measure fell four votes short of passage. The bill has gained the support of a number of police agencies. Some areas in Central Illinois currently have cameras to regulate traffic but not to catch traffic violators. Opponents of the bill are concerned about the accuracy of the cameras and privacy issues.
