Reported by: Jacob Long, WMBD/WYZZ-TV Thursday, Sep 10, 2009 @04:00pm CDT NORMAL - Environment Illinois presented the results of a new, nationwide study today at the Bank of Illinois. The study focused on what still needs to be done to help push the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 through the U.S. Senate.Environment Illinois believes towns with LEED Certified buildings, like Normal, are setting good examples. But the study finds more work needs to be done so Illinois can reap the economic benefits of going green. For example, it says 30,400 sustainable jobs could be created if our state improves its energy efficiency in the next ten years. The study also says Illinois households could save $252 a year. Pulling resources together to support the ACES of 2009 is what Environment Illinois believes needs to happen to improve Illinois' energy efficiency. Brian Granahan says, "We'll see job creation. We'll see energy savings in Illinois. We'll see reduced energy bills for Illinoisans. We'll see cleaner air and less carbon emissions. We think that's vitally important. It's a win-win all around." The ACES of 2009 passed the U.S. House in June. |
