irisp@wmbd.com Iris brought her passion for broadcast journalism to WMBD 31 from Motown in December 2007. Fascinated by investigative journalism at a young age, Iris has almost always known she was destined to become a reporter. The Detroit native graduated from the University of Michigan with a BA in Communication Studies & Spanish. While there, she served as the Secretary of the National Association of Black Journalists (U-M Chapter), and was involved with the "Phenomenal Women" of Delta Tau Lambda Sorority, Incorporated. Iris was also apart of U of M's Residence Education Staff for 2 years. In the summer of 2005, Iris interned with WJBK FOX 2 in Detroit. Two years later, she headed to Grand Rapids, Michigan to intern with WZZM 13. Shortly after she began her final internship, Iris received the Kara Sundlun House Scholarship and the Helen Weber Award from the U of M’s Communication Studies Department. Iris is also an active member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ). When she’s not taking action for you in the WMBD newsroom and the community, Iris enjoys cooking Puerto Rican dishes, practicing yoga, learning about integrative medicine, working out and reading. |
