Sarah Barwacz is in love with journalism. Before joining WMBD 31 News she worked as a reporter in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. During her time there she worked as the education reporter but also covered general assignment stories. 

You may have seen Sarah’s reports. Before she joined us, she worked as a freelance reporter for another Central Illinois TV station during college. She started out as an on-air intern. She says it was worth the move because it was one of the best experiences she ever had.

Sarah is a graduate of Northern Illinois University. She balanced class while driving to Rockford, Illinois for a reporter internship. During college, she had a great experience because she got to report, anchor, and produce a newscast that aired as CNN Headline Local News. Her leadership roles included being president of NIU’s student branch for the Illinois News Broadcasters Association.  

When Sarah is not at work she likes to work out, volunteer, and spend time with family and friends. She has a weakness for coffee shops, and loves the outdoors.

Sarah lives by the philosophy that she works for the community. She wants to know what’s important to you. Whether it’s a story idea, a concern, a person we should know, drop her a line.
