Reported by: Christy Stelzer WMBD/WYZZ Reporter Tuesday, Oct 28, 2008 @05:38pm CDT WMDB/WYZZ— Normal— There's a need for math and science teachers nationwide, and some Illinois State University students are coming to the rescue. Much of the need for teachers comes from Chicago, and a new scholarship targeting math and science teachers is in place to help fill those vacancies. The Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship will award winners at least $10,000 per year and have their tuition and fees waived by Illinois State University. In return, they have to commit to teach in Chicago Public Schools for at least two years. Chicago Public Schools CEO, Arne Duncan, says there is such a need for teachers in math and science because many of them go on to industrial jobs.
