Reported by: Sarah Barwacz - WMBD/WYZZ TV Monday, Jun 25, 2007 @03:47pm CDT WMBD/WYZZ - Ollie Nanyes is an internet blogger. Through that blog he found himself in touch with, apparently, neo-nazis. It all started with a small post. "I said was one line, that Leonard Pitts tells racists to buzz off." In other words, he posted a syndicated columnist's article that said blacks were not oppressing white people. That column followed the arrest of a black man in the killing of a white couple in Tennessee. Nanyes wanted people's thoughts, but got more than he bargained for. "Someone has a small Nazi group in Virginia who posted a response." A response that felt threatening, so Nanyes called the FBI. That call angered a Neo-Nazi living in Virginia. "He called me up and accused me of starting a campaign of trying to get the FBI to arrest him." Flyers were thrown in sandwich bags with rocks at neighbors' doors, spreading a message of hate. "Accused me of being a communist, hating white people, approving of rape, to stand up to threats like me, the neighbors ought to join their party." Nanyes says the local Neo-Nazis actually are misguided teenagers--graduates heading to their first year of college. |
