  • ISU Students Face Problems at the Polls
Reported by: Christy Stelzer WMBD/WYZZ Reporter

WMBD/WYZZ— Normal— Some Illinois State University students' freedom to vote is being compromised. Illinois State students who never received their registration cards are being turned down at the early-voting polls and more could face the same problem come November 4.

The “Trust Me, I’m a Voter” campaign registered 1,900 students, which is more than 6-times as many who were registered in 2004; during that election students waited in line to vote for two hours. ISU Communications Lecturer, Jennifer McDade, says the students who went through "Trust Me, I’m a Voter" are registered, but she says, the county clerk has at least nine boxes of student registration forms still waiting to be filed.

“We've been told that if they don’t have time to process the paperwork by November 4, that they will stay in the boxes that they’re in right now and that the election judge will call on each voter who has not yet been processed," McDade said.

“Trust Me, I’m a Voter” campaign members are calling on the county clerk’s office to help make sure students' ballots are counted by filing the proper paperwork in time for election day. The McLean County Clerks office had no comment. If you are an ISU student waiting on your registration card, bring your voter-registration receipt and your ID with you when you vote.
