Corrections officials sent a recommendation letter earlier this week to the Commission of Government Forecasting and Accountability. When we spoke with Senator Dan Rutherford, he said this recommendation is just part of the process to closing the prison, and that there's still more steps to take. One of those steps includes a public hearing scheduled for August 12th. The final decision still lies with Governor Rod Blagojevich. Corrections leaders say closing the prison would save the state four-million dollars. |
