Reported by: WMBD/WYZZ-TV STAFF Tuesday, Jul 1, 2008 @10:54pm CDT WMBD/WYZZ-TV - Grand Chute, Wis. -- The Peoria Chiefs used a four-run fourth inning to cruise to a 5-1 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Tuesday night for their first eight-game winning streak in five seasons. The Chiefs last eight-game win streak was June 22-29, 2003 and the same-season franchise record for regular season wins in a row is nine, accomplished in 1989. The 2002 team won 12 straight, but the last six were in the playoffs. Nate Samson led off the fourth with an infield single and moved to second when Marquez Smith walked. Jovan Rosa, who won Monday’s game with an 11th inning walk-off grand slam, put the Chiefs on top 2-0 connected on a 2-RBI double off loser Michael Pineda (5-4). Luis Bautista followed with a run-scoring double to make it 3-0. After Bautista stole third and Brandon Guyer struck out, Cliff Andersen made it 4-0 with a sacrifice fly to deep left. Peoria starter Kevin Kreier left the game in the bottom of the fourth after experiencing stiffness in his lower back. Zach Ashwood (4-6) relieved him and allowed one run in three innings to earn the win. |
