Hello and Happy New Year!
I would like to thank Central Illinois Proud Families of Marines for
all of their love, support, and concern over the past several months.
As our time here passes, all of us miss home and the ones we love that
much more. Add to this the holiday season which is a time that many of
us see our families and friends more frequently, and feelings of
loneliness and homesickness become even more prevalent. The cards,
letters, and presents sent by all of you worked wonders to help raise
the spirits of all of us that are here in Iraq.
We are very fortunate to have so many people that care enough to take
the time and effort to think of us while we are out here. All of the
Marines were surprised when they received stockings and that we also
had a Christmas tree to enjoy.
It is incredible how much support we receive from back home. We are
truly grateful for your support not only during the holidays but
throughout the year. It's amazing how the little things always go a
long way. It is organizations and people like you that remind us why
we do what we do.
Thank you and God Bless,

Men and Women of the Central Illinois Proud Families of Marines,
I received several boxes of stocking from your organization over the past couple weeks. Tonight I passed them out to my company. Needless to say, they were very well received. A small token from home goes a long way. For many of my Paratroopers, this will be their first Christmas away from home. For other Soldiers, like myself, it is yet another Christmas away from home (four years in a row I have spent Christmas in a new country!). For all of us, the stockings are a token demonstrating that there are great Americans back home who support us and make our daily sacrifices worthwhile.
Thank you for sending enough stockings for me to pass on to my company. I'm not sure how I got on your list, but I'm glad that this Army Soldier made it. I'm originally from Dwight, Illinois, in Livingston County. It is encouraging to know that I hail from a state that is so supportive of it's veterans, from all services. Thank you for the that support!
Please continue the prayers as well, each one certainly makes a difference.
Respectfully,

Thank you so much for the fantastic boxes of stockings. Your kindness and generosity is overwhelming. It is not possible to explain how much this means to the troops on my unit. In the meantime, here are some pictures of me checking the the boxes in my hootch. God bless President Bush, our troops and our mission. Many thanks to all those folks who have been sending gifts, goodies and words of encouragement and support to me and my troops in Iraq. All the many cards, letters, emails and packages are important to us. We appreciate all the time and effort you have put into making our holidays brighter.
We value the trust you have placed in us and we are repaying you for your continued faith in our mission. The surge has worked. Violence is dramatically down and security is increasing. The Iraqi Army has taken over responsibility in 9 of 18 provinces. The Awakening Council, the Sunni-Shia Reconciliation and the Concerned Local Citizens militias are all working with American forces against Al Qaeda and their ganagster proxies, with good results.Rest assured that although the U.S. media does not broadcast the good news stories; there are plenty of them. We hope to finish our job here. Even though we are still winning, Congressional Democrats keep searching for someone to surrender to. Don't let them.
I wish a very Merry Christmas to all those in the United States who have given so much to us in so many different ways. God bless you all.

Thank you so much for all the boxes you've sent to my men these past few weeks. I'm the executive officer for a 700 man infantry battalion stationed in the northern part of Baghdad. We've only been in country for about a month and so have roughly 14 (or so) to go. Within a few weeks of getting settled into our new home we started receiving your packages--the troops were pretty happy...and surprised. They really do appreciate the snacks and other stuff you've been sending. It seems like a never-ending amount! About half the battalion is living in more austere conditions than I, out in the Baghdad neighborhoods in Combat Outposts. We've made a special effort to get your packages out to them as well and I know they appreciate the little touch of home that the stockings give 'em. Again, thank you so much for showing these Soldiers that someone is thinking of them and thankful for what they're doing.

On behalf of my Marines and Sailors, I would like to take the time to thank you and everyone else responsible for the wonderful stockings. We truly appreciate this noble gesture because we can see that somebody took some of their personal time to make the stockings to include filling them. My men and women noticed this and were deeply touched by the kindness and generosity displayed. Gestures like these truly make everything we do worthwhile because it tells us that America cares about their men and women who are out here serving their country.
Being away from our loved ones during the holidays is difficult, but we knew and understood the sacrifices we would be making when we signed on the dotted line. Hi Patti!
I received six boxes today full of Christmas stocking! Thank you somuch for the work, coordination, and effort you and others put into Operation Santa. Every month, all the Marines located on the base here in Baghdad get together for a social where we eat and have a good time.
For our next social in December, I will announce to all the Marines what CIPFM has provided before I issue out all the stockings. I will also take pictures and send them to you. The social should be sometime during the second week in December. I was on pjstar.com last month and
I read about all the great work you all have been doing preparing of Operation Santa. I also read the article about you getting to meet the president, how exciting! You are truly doing great things for deployed service members and we appreciate all your efforts.
Things here are continuing to go very well. I have passed the half way point of my deployment and I have a little over two months left. Between my mission and physical training (PT), I stay pretty busy. However, I have found time to each week to volunteer for a Humanitarian Aid effort called "Hearts for Baghdad" or HFB which is sponsored by the Chaplain's office here in Iraq. The Humanitarian Aid effort is described in the attached information sheets. HFB provides much needed
clothing, shoes, school supplies, and other things to Iraqi children and their families. All these things are donated to HFB by caring people in the US. Many of the Iraqi families we support live nearby in war torn neighborhoods and do not have, or cannot afford many of these items. I have attached a few pictures from a previous humanitarian aid effort at a Iraqi kindergarten school where we passed out bookbags and school supplies. HFB is a very rewarding Humanitarian Aid effort as well as a great volunteer opportunity.
Additionally, as an extension of Hearts For Baghdad, we have started an Arabic book drive/reading program for Iraqi children called "Books for Baghdad". The objective of this program is to acknowledge cultural connections through reading and to provide a fun and safe reading environment for Iraqi Children. Basically, we (volunteer US service members) will read to and with Iraqi children. Also, we will conduct
book drives where we will give books to schools and individual children. I have solicited schools in Peoria, on Camp Pendleton, and my former university (UofI) for help in to getting "Books for Baghdad" started. I have received a lot of support and I am awaiting our first shipment of books. Because of the language barrier, we have to be creative so we have requested children's books written in both English and Arabic.
Two weeks ago, we started Books for Baghdad and it was a success! We had no books to give out but I was able to read a book with Iraqi
children. I used a book I ordered called "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle which is written in both Arabic and English. The children
really enjoyed the story and the experience. I have attached a few pictures for you. The female soldier in the pictures is an interpreter
who read the Arabic text after I read the English text to the two young Iraqi girls. We recently established a website and it is as follows:
http://www.heartsforbaghdad.org/ It is great to be involved in a volunteer effort such as this, especially one that positively affects the lives of children. As you know, the last time I was deployed to Iraq, I had several opportunities to interact with Iraqi children during my missions; those experiences
have tremendously affected me and I believe initiatives like HFB are so important. I am really excited about this Humanitarian Aid effort, to
me, it makes all that we are fighting for here all the more meaningful.
Well Patti, take care and I will let you know when Operation Santa is complete in Baghdad. Thanks again!
